Experience
I specialize in making things clear. I love helping people learn in whatever ways work best for them, more efficiently, effectively, & enjoyably than in school. Many students of all ages say I’m the best teacher they’ve ever had (please forgive the lack of humility here, but how else do you cite your qualifications?). I’ve taught individuals & groups for decades. I’m a bit of a Renaissance Man, having studied & taught a very broad range of topics. I certainly can’t teach everything, and if we come to some area I’m not knowledgeable about, I’ll definitely tell you. My math thesis at Reed was on the "winding number," & included an original contribution to the field of mathematics: a completely new proof of the fundamental theorem of algebra, using calculus of complex variables - the most simple & elegant proof for that theorem yet discovered. I have performed for years as a classical pianist, organist, singer (lieder & opera), conductor of choirs & orchestras, & stage director of operas. I have also studied music theory, harmony, composition, & history pretty thoroughly. I have composed a few piano pieces. I have taught all of these areas of music for years. I have been a serious student, teacher, practitioner, researcher, & writer in the field of philosophy for 33 years. I am now writing my first book for publication. I am an expert in interpersonal communication, and can easily demonstrate my skills in both expressing myself clearly and understanding others. Kids & adults find it easy to understand me & to get me to understand them. I'm a big fan of humor and its uses in putting people at ease and making things fun. I have been a successful management & organizational consultant and coach for 30 years, having developed considerable expertise in all aspects of business, economics, finance, & management. I am now retired from that field in order to write. You can see my work on my website, www.developmentalconsulting.com. I have also designed software & websites, & have pioneered new methods & practices for the software industry. You can see my work in this field on my website, www.iPDPartnersLLC.com. I started doing accounting, helping my father (a CPA) when I was seven, & have done it ever since. I've done almost every kind of work in the accounting field. I've taught it for years, & have successfully trained many bookkeepers. Since all tutors on this site seem to put in their own test scores, here are mine: SAT 680/740. GRE 780 math. I like kids (including older ones in college) a lot, so they tend to like me as well. I like them as they are. They don't need to change anything about themselves for my sake. If they want to improve anything, however, I'm happy to help. I think you’ll find that I can help you learn much more than you thought you could, more quickly than you have before, and really understand, remember, and be able to use what you learn.

Hobbies
Classical music, Chinese tea, ping pong, Mark Twain, philosophy, humor. A note about prices: perhaps more important to students and their parents than price per hour is price per unit of learning. I teach very fast, so my real price per learned unit is very low. Also important is the quality of what is learned, and how much is remembered and really used. That is my specialty. I am offering an attractive, low rate of $45/hour for a limited time, while I get established in this area.
