ExperienceYou can see I'm comfortable tutoring in many subjects, and that's because I have so many interests! I've been tutoring for years now, and I love being able to share my knowledge and skills with students.
Although English is my native language, I've been tutoring and teaching French since 2010. I've also tutored middle school students in essay writing, and I even flew all the way to China to teach English.
Most recently, I've been helping students with high school level English, ISEE preparation, high school Latin, and ESL.
I absolutely love teaching! I was a French instructor at the University of Oregon from 2012-2014 while I was completing my MA, and I recently moved back to Santa Clarita to be close to my family. I've taken many education classes (at the graduate level), and I've received great reviews from my students.
My focus in graduate school was teaching foreign languages and French literary history. I also ran the French club at UO and I presented at French cultural events. Most of my students were freshmen and sophomores, but before I was a college instructor, I tutored high school students in Berkeley.
Here are some nice things my students have said about me and my classes:
"Chloe went out of her way to help us learn. She recognizes the difference between memorizing French for a test and actually learning the language to use in real life, and it's very refreshing to have someone support that work whole-heartedly. Quite respectful, very approachable, and organized."
"Chloe is extremely personable and has created a professional yet friendly rapport with the students. Part of learning a language is trying and making many mistakes, Chloe was always very knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us through our mistakes. Also, she's quite funny, which is essential for language learning."
"Chloe does a wonderful job of keeping everyone engaged no matter what the subject is. She makes it very easy for everyone to participate and share their input in a safe, exciting learning environment."
“Chloe is enthusiastic about what she is teaching. She genuinely wants every one of her students to do well and does everything she can to ensure they understand the material. She is very entertaining and never boring. I had a lot of fun in this class”
“Chloe is an amazing teacher both in and out of the classroom. She is so easy to talk to and loves her students and her job. I would highly recommend her to anyone that would like to learn French in a fun, stress free environment!”
I’m proud of the fact that these reviews stress my enthusiasm for teaching. One of my strongest skills is my ability to put students at ease while moving through difficult material. In my experience, the students who are struggling are usually those who are bored or overwhelmed by their classes or workloads. I work hard to combat both boredom and anxiety so that students can access the magic of understanding new concepts.
I am a kind and patient instructor, and I aim to develop a rapport with a student (and a trusting relationship) so that we might learn from each other how to better interact and communicate. I have an excellent grasp of English standards and grammar, and significant experience with literary traditions and analysis. I am confident that I can help even the most reluctant student to find excitement in any assignment!
HobbiesI'm also a painter, a potter, a writer, and I sew! I'm a very creative person, and it shows in my approach to learning materials and teaching.
